Representatives of the Serb National Council (SNV) called on Kosovo Serbs on Wednesday to boycott the elections which Pristina interim institutions scheduled for December 12.
President of SNV for Kosovo-Metohija Dragan Velic qualified the elections as illegal and illegitimate.
“They (the elections) are illegal because they are contrary to the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the international law, and they are illegitimate because true representatives cannot be elected at polls that do not provide basic conditions, at least when it comes to the participation of Kosovo Serbs,” Velic said.
President of SNV in North Kosovo-Metohija Milan Ivanovic assessed that going to polls had never done any good to Serbs and, as he said, only triggered ethnic cleansing, the violent outburst on March 17, 2004 and Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence.
“We do not have any results of their (Kosovo Serbs') participation in the elections, and experience shows that they should not participate, especially now that the elections are being organized by (Kosovo Prime Minister) Hasim Taci and do not have the legitimacy of participation either by UNMIK, OSCE or Resolution 1244, and we know that the UN will not verify the elections because it did not recognize Kosovo's independence,” Ivanovic said.
Serbs who decide to participate in the elections will show that they recognize Kosovo's independence, and such Serbs, who do not have the support of relevant political parties and the nation, best fit ethnic Albanians' bill, Ivanovic underscored.
He added that participation in the elections is deeply contradictory to the best interests of Serbs and the Republic of Serbia.
