The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) held separate protests Monday against the Strategic Military Partner Conference and said Serbia must never join NATO.

DSS representatives held a news conference on the Branko Bridge in Belgrade, where they said Serbia must retain its military neutrality.

They invited Serbian President Boris Tadic and Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac to tell the public if they had decided that Serbia should speedily join NATO, and reminded that only the people have the right to make that decision at a referendum.

Party activists placed a "No to NATO" sign on another Belgrade bridge, and drove in cars draped in Serbian flags and signs which read "Serbia above all."

SRS representatives protested in front of the presidential building by burning the NATO flag and signs which read "The criminal always returns to the scene of the crime."

The SRS said it was impermissible that the same people who had bombed Serbia in 1999, and who were stealing Kosovo and killing innocents across the world hold a conference in Belgrade.

There were no incidents reported.
