Survey: Connections needed for employment in state firms

For employment in a domestic private firm, in 40 percent of cases those questioned had required connections, while 35 percent found work through job advertisements.
More than half of employees in state firms got their jobs through connections, show the results of a survey published on July 14 on the employment website Infostud (poslovi.infostud.com).
It states that 51 percent of those questioned said that they had got their state firm job with the help of connections or an acquaintance, while 21 percent had found employment in a state firm after having been found or contacted by their employer.
A total of 15 percent of those questioned gained employment in a state firm through an job advertisement which had been published on a specialized employment website, and 1 in 10 of those questioned had found employment through the National Employment Service.
The most common way of finding employment in a foreign private firm in Serbia was through an employment website, reported Infostud which added that 47 percent of those taking part in the survey had found work through a competition in an advertisement, while connections had helped 1 in 4 of those questioned to find work in a foreign company.
In 20 percent of cases, employers in foreign private firms had found candidates themselves, through a database of CVs.
