The European Commission (EC) has expressed deep regret over Serbian authorities' decision to ban the Pride Parade in Belgrade, condemned threats made by extremist organizations and called on the Serbian authorities to respect the freedom of assembly.

We deeply regret that the Pride Parade was not held, EC released in a statement on Monday, adding that they also strongly condemn intimidation and threats of extremist organizations to the Pride Parade Organizers.

The threats prevented the Serbian citizens from exercising the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and anti-discrimination laws, the statement reads.

EC called on the Serbian authorities to do everything to fully respect the freedom of assembly and expression in order to allow all peaceful gatherings in the future.
