Leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic has stated that the SNS is no longer willing to give unwavering support to declarations on Kosovo drafted by the Democratic Party (DS).

Leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic has stated that the SNS is no longer willing to give unwavering support to declarations on Kosovo drafted by the Democratic Party (DS).

The government has hit a wall and the only way out is to have the entire Serbia stand behind a uniform plan on Kosovo-Metohija which should be presented to great powers as soon as possible, Nikolic said in an interview for Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti.

Nikolic claims that he has not yet seen the text of the government's declaration on Kosovo-Metohija.

“I have heard that this document toured the embassies firsts. The authorities apparently believe that it is more important to present the document first to foreigners and than to the National Assembly. Therefore, they should not hope that we will support the declaration unless they clearly say what it the stand of the state like. They should make a decision - either to remain on the barricades in the north, or to remove them,” Nikolic said.

He stated that none of the SNS officials has talked to any government representative regarding the party's support to the Kosovo policy.

When asked what if Serbia does not get the EU membership status on December 9, Nikolic said that it should be made clear to Europe that 'by depriving us of Kosovo, you deprives us of further talks with you'.

“However, many government representatives say that postponement of candidacy would not be the end of the world, but I am certain that it would be the end of the government. The fall of the government would be inevitable,” Nikolic said.
