"Arena 2012": Strong police, army precondition of strong state

Joint services of the Ministry of the Interior - the Gendarmerie, Special Anti-Terrorist Unit and helicopter units,  successfully carried out the demonstration tactical exercise of the release of hostages called "Arena 2012".

The exercise, performed around the building of "Belgrade Arena", included police snipers, teams for counter-sabotage inspections, fire and rescue units, sniffer dogs and members of other police units. The exercise was watched by numerous citizens and police attachés.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic, who congratulated the police and army members on the successfully performed exercise, said that it showed why the Serbian police enjoy a high level of trust among citizens.

Police members demonstrated a high level of capability for solving the most complex tasks, Dacic noted.

The role of the Ministry of the Interior is to get prepared for any possible reaction to any terrorist action and be trained for a quick response in all situations.

The Minister said that the tasks of the police are preservation of peace, fight against crime and corruption, violence and terrorism.

Dacic reiterated that without strong police and army there can be no strong state and added that a better position of the police must be ensured.
