At least five people were killed, and eight others injured in an explosion at a Chinese pharmaceutical factory on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at the factory in the southwestern Chinese province Yunnan, and the blast was caused by fire, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

In China, thousands are dying every year in workplace accidents, mostly because of lax application of safety rules and poor worker training, AP noted.
