The Moldovan government resigned on Monday, a day before the first session of the new parliament after unsolved issues that followed the elections which left the country in political deadlock.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat formally announced the resignation of his pro-European government in the former Soviet republic, without further explanation.
In the November 28 elections, the Communists won 42 seats in the parliament, whereas the pro-European alliance consisting of three parties won 59, two short of the 61 needed to elect a new president.
The Communists demanded a recount of votes, claiming the election was highly irregular. However, the results remained the same after the recount.
