Albania's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto stated that recognition of the new state of Kosovo, which was declared by Kosovo Albanians, will remain a priority of Tirana's foreign policy.

Albania's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto stated that recognition of the new state of Kosovo, which was declared by Kosovo Albanians, will remain a priority of Tirana's foreign policy.

Lobbying for further recognition of the new state of Kosovo will remain the main priority of the Albanian foreign policy, Haxhinasto said in an interview for the Radio and Television of Kosovo and the Albanian news agency ATA reported.

Haxhinasto underscored that the state of Kosovo needs help in its regional and international activities aimed at economic cooperation and security.

Tirana has lobbied for the state of Kosovo since the very first day of its establishment. Kosovo has so far been recognized by 75 world countries.

According to Haxhinasto, the debate on Kosovo's independence is a closed issue, and there is no space for further negotiations with Serbia. He also welcomed the talks between Belgrade and Pristina, which are scheduled to start in Brussels on Tuesday afternoon, under the auspices of EU.

The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is an important process which should address the issues of common interest for the citizens of both countries, stressed Haxhinasto, who was appointed foreign minister three months ago, when his processor Iljir Meta was forced to resign over corruption claims.
