The situation has stabilized on the Beli Timok River, Maric said, but added that the level of the Crni Timok River could go up.
"We must be prepared for the following days," he stressed, adding: "Other places in Serbia have reported a rise of water levels in the basins of the Mlava, Pek and Timok rivers as well as of Velika Morava, Juzna Morava, Toplica, Ibar, Drina, Jasenica and in rivers the Banat region. Water levels are on rise everywhere, but lives or properties are not in danger for the time being."
He added that some 70 emergency situations officers are engaged in the Zajecar region.
"Three rescue teams from Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis are in the region," Maric said, adding that a Kraljevo team is ready to join in as well as the entire emergency sector team of 3,000 people.
The level of the Beli Timok River has hit a record high and is 1.2 meters above the mark for emergency flood defense.
