Special units of the Kosovo police have already been deployed in northern Kosovo and they will continue to be sent to this region, Redzepi said in Pristina, the local media reported.

Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi has said that special units of the Kosovo police are already operationg in northern Kosovo.

Special units of the Kosovo police have already been deployed in northern Kosovo and they will continue to be sent to this region, Redzepi said in Pristina, the local media reported.

Redzepi said that in some cases, when police were engageged in a certain operation, special units were sent to Zubin Potok (municipality with a Serb majority) without EULEX approval.

Two months ago, I mentioned that the presence of special units will be increased if required. And this is exactly what happened.

The police were tracking down smugglers, and arrests were carried out in Zubin Potok, Zvecan and other areas.

Of course, the Kosovo police operate in coordination, and if there is room for it, we do that together with EULEX, but if an operation is underway, we operate independently as well, Redzepi said.

According to him, special units are being deployed in northern Kosovo so as to intensify the efficiency of police work in this part of the region.

Redzepi said that the idea of engaging special multiethic units in northern Kosovo is still an option, but pointed out that political accord is required for that to happen.
