The drugs were placed in 383 packages and their total value is estimated at around €10 million. The analyses confirmed that it is high-quality heroin, Dacic specified.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said  that members of the Serbian Interior Ministry arrested two organisers of smuggling which amounted to about 120 kilograms of heroin, Zoran Petkovic and Borislav Plavsic.

Dacic told a news conference that Plavsic and Petkovic have been submitted to the investigating judge in Belgrade while action is still ongoing so more arrests are expected.

The Interior Minister confirmed that the drugs were seized on 20 October in a truck travelling from Istanbul to the Czech Republic.

The drugs were placed in 383 packages and their total value is estimated at around €10 million. The analyses confirmed that it is high-quality heroin, Dacic specified.

He underlined that the drugs were intended for the Western European market and explained that three-quarters of drugs for this market are smuggled through the so-called “Balkan route”.

The Minister highlighted that this is one of the largest seizures of drugs in the last few decades. Apart from the Serbian police, the Czech police and Interpol also took part in the operation against this criminal group which had been followed by the police for several months.
