Second EC expert mission to start next week

The second EC expert mission, which should stay in Serbia from February 28 to March 4, will confer with representatives of Serbian regulatory bodies, while the third mission, which is due to visit Serbia from March 14 to 18, would be in charge of checking the situation in the domain of human and minority rights, the position of refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as issues such as border control, migrations and asylum.
The first expert mission of the European Commission (EC) which was supposed to analyse Serbia's answers to the EC questionnaire has finished its work in Belgrade on Friday, Director of the Government's Office for European Integration Milica Delevic stated.
The findings of the EC mission will be included in the EC opinion on Serbia's EU candidacy application.
Serbia delivered its answers to the EC questionnaire in Brussels on January 31.
Delevic told Tanjug that the talks between EC experts and representatives of Serbian institutions, which started on February 21, covered the topics of judiciary reform, police organisation and reform and fight against organised crime and corruption.
Several EC missions will visit Belgrade in the time to come, Delevic said and specified that the second expert mission should arrive early next week, and would be followed by another one which is due to arrive in mid-March.
According to previous announcements, EC experts will be inspecting the progress Serbia has made in fulfilling the criteria in three key fields - rule of law and judiciary, work of independent regulatory bodies and protection of human and minority rights.
