Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic has stated that there are no indications that a decision on suspension of visa liberalisation could be made any time soon.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic has stated that there are no indications that a decision on suspension of visa liberalisation could be made any time soon.

The government has constituted a committee for monitoring the non-visa regime with the European Union (EU), and it is headed by Interior Ministry Border Police chief Nenad Banovic, Djelic said in an interview for the Saturday edition of the Belgrade-based daily Politika and added that ten ministries will participate in the committee's work.

Representatives of Djelic's cabinet will also take part in the work of the committee, together with officials of the government's Office for European Integration, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Refugee Commission and the Foreign Ministry, Djelic said.

He expressed belief that toward the end of the year, the initiative put forth by Holland and France would lead to changes in the legislation related to visa liberalisation, which would provide a possibility for a part of member countries in the Schengen regime to initiate a temporary suspension of the white Schengen list for a country a great number of illegal immigrants are coming from, adding that Serbia is not the country this refers to.

Still, Serbia needs to be very careful, which is the reason why the working group has been formed, since it is much easier to prevent potential oversights than to correct them.
