The traveling exhibition 'Cities on the River', which has been presented in Hungary, Austria and Slovakia, opened Thursday at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Belgrade.
The exhibit's centerpiece was presented at the Austrian Embassy - a video installation by Austrian artist Ines Lombardi, dubbed 'Given', which emerged from an extraordinary journey on the Danube across Europe, during which the artist was the sole passenger of a large cargo ship.
According to Austrian Ambassador to Serbia Clemens Koja, the Danube often serves as a metaphor for Europe, the coexistence of many nations, different religions, cultures and languages, who live along the river.
The other artwork will be on display in the Magacin gallery in Belgrade, and as of March 11, part of it will be presented to the public at the Novi Sad Academy of Arts, under the auspices of the Cultural Center of Novi Sad.
The exhibit includes paintings, photographs, prints and video works of 16 artists from Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
