Economic advisor to the Serbian prime minister Jurij Bajec stated on Wednesday that it is in the interest of the Serbian economy to have the issue of customs stamps solved in the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

It would be positive to have this issue solved in the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in a way that would be mutually satisfactory for both sides, and it would help bring Serbian products back to the Kosovo market, Bajec told reporters after the roundtable discussion on the influence which the potential second wave of the global economic crisis could have on Serbia.

The problem related to the recognition of customs stamps has so far been one of the stumbling blocks in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Bajec recalled the high level of placement of Serbian goods to the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, but he also mentioned one more important fact, that is, there were no deliveries of Kosovo goods to Serbian midland, which means that Serbia has so far had only net effect in its trade with Kosovo.

He noted that other countries would use the chance to deliver their good to Kosovo and thus replace goods from Serbia. Bajec expressed concern that unless the issue is solved, trade would tip over to grey channels, and underscored that this is not something that Serbia wants or can derive any direct benefits from.

Pristina introduced embargo on Serbian goods on July 20.
