The EULEX calls on officials from Belgrade and Pristina to refrain from any acts that could be taken as provocations, Spokeswoman for the mission Irina Gudeljevic told.

She did not comment on the allegations made by Kosovo's Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi that EULEX had given him a negative response to the request for seizing the new Serbian license plates containing initials of Kosovo's cities.

The EU will remain in contact with Belgrade and Pristina regarding the issue and we are calling on both sides to refrain from any acts that could be taken as provocations, the EULEX spokeswoman said.

Gudeljevic added that, prior to the implementation of any new measure, it should first be debated and prepared and the public duly informed about it.

Spokesman for the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) Besim Hoti has told that the police are obliged to act on the order of the Kosovo interior minister and seize the new Serbian licence plates with initial letters of Kosovo's cities inscribed on them and also to write a ticket for the offence.

There were not many such plates in Kosovo recently, he pointed out, adding that there were 3-4 cases for which the police initiated proceedings a few months ago, when the decision started being implemented.

The police must act on the order issued by the Kosovo Interior Ministry, Hoti undelined.
