Member of the European Parliament Ulrike Lunacek is interested in running the EU delegation in Kosovo. She confirmed to Die Presse, a daily from Vienna, that she had applied for the post.
According to her, both EU and Kosovo officials encouraged her to apply. Die Presse claims Lunacek has the support of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fuele.
She currently serves as European Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo and is often in contact with Kosovo's institutions.
Lunacek's efforts to have the EU allow visa-free travel for Kosovo citizens has made her popular with Kosovo's officials. Die Presse notes that the position Lunacek applied for could become even more significant because it could be merged with the post of the EU special representative for Kosovo.
