Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Greek Minister for Citizen Protection Christos Papoutsis conferred Thursday in Athens on mutual recognition of driving licenses.
Dacic told reporters that talks with Papoutsis focused on signing an agreement on mutual recognition of driving licenses in order to make life easier for citizens.
He told a joint news conference with Papoutsis that one of the themes of the meeting was cooperation between the police forces of the two countries during tourist visits and sporting events.
An agreement should be concluded on the way the police will cooperate in maintaining public order and peace during tourist visits or sporting events, Dacic said.
He recalled that about two and a half years ago, an agreement on police cooperation was signed between the two countries, resulting in arrests of people who were trafficking people and smuggling drugs.
Papoutsis said that he and Dacic exchanged views on all issues that can strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two countries as well as between Greek and Serbian peoples, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia said.
The possibility of forming mixed groups of police in destinations which are popular with Serbian tourists was also discussed, he said, adding that Greece is already implementing such activities with Bulgaria.
Papoutsis said that another topic of discussion was cooperation in the fields of illegal migration, fight against organized crime and ways of coordinating actions in emergency situations such as fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.
Dacic will end his visit to Athens Thursday afternoon with a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas, the release says.
