The chief of the Serbian government's team for talks with Pristina, Borislav Stefanovic, on June 1 said that politicians should not bring confusion into the issue of Kosovo and Metohija by making differing statements, and reiterated that the government's stand on this issue is completely unified.
Speaking at the session of the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija, Stefanovic said that certain politicians wish to "make a personal impact" in the solving of the crisis, but that the population should only pay attention to the statements of those politicians who have jurisdiction and possess relevant information, like the president, prime minister, the relevant minister and himself.
"Everything else is part of political folklore. People should know who is at the source of information, and it seems to me that they know this," he said, adding that debate on all issues is permitted in any democratic society.
However, Stefanovic did not dismiss the possibility of dividing Kosovo to be discussed as well, reiterating that all issues may be discussed because the Serbian side wishes to be constructive and does not want to be accused of opposing the dialog.
Stefanovic said he hoped that, during the talks in Brussels mid-June, an agreement will be reached on issues such as the freedom of movement, the cadaster, registry books and telecommunications. However, he said that claims that everything had already been settled and that EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton had played a role in that are nothing but media speculation.
The chief of the negotiating team decisively denied that something will be signed after the reaching of an agreement with Pristina, because this way Serbia would recognize Kosovo as an equal factor - an independent state.
He explained that there will be no signing and that the agreements will be carried out through government decrees under supervision from Brussels.
