Iran will not recognize Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence although certain members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are requesting from the country to do so, Iran's Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad Mehdi Akhondzadeh has stated.

Iran does not recognize Kosovo, Akhondzadeh told journalists in the residence of the Iran's ambassador to Belgrade on Tuesday evening.

He added that certain Iranian MPs are laying stress on Islamic solidarity, and urging Teheran to recognize Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence.

Akhondzadeh, who headed the Iranian delegation on a two-day ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, congratulated Serbia on the organization of the 50th anniversary of the NAM.

The Iranian official, who visited Belgrade for the first time, said that he hopes that Serbia and Iran will in future promote their friendly relations.
