Protected witness in Ljimaj case found dead

The protected witness under the pseudonym X in the case of war crimes in the village of Klecka, central Kosovo, was found dead, EULEX spokesperson Irina Gudeljevic has confirmed to Tanjug.

According to Gudeljevic, the protected witness X was found dead in a park in Germany. The German authorities are investigating the case. The protected witness X was Agim Zogaj from Kosovo. The trial of Fatmir Ljimaj and others accused of war crimes in Klecka is expected to begin by end October.

Fatmir Ljimaj, who has been under house arrest since last week, will be tried on an indictment charging him with war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war. There are announcements that the possible date for the beginning of the trial is October 17.

The chamber of the Pristina District Court, headed by EULEX judge, prolonged custody to the group of nine accused for another two months. Ljimaj and other defendants are charged with murders, torture and health endangerment of Albanian and Serb civilians from Kosovo and prisoners of war.
