The Police Union of Serbia (PSS) ended the multi-day strike late Tuesday, after reaching an agreement with Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic on fulfillment of their social and financial requests.
Dacic said after the meeting that there is no need to continue the strike since the agreement was made, adding that the Ministry of Interior (MUP) and the Serbian government's stand is that the position of police officers should be resolved systematically, which implies improvement of financial position, equipment and the status of policemen in the society.
He also said that the government has adopted the bill amending the Law on Police, which will make sure that a special collective agreement for police officers be implemented as of 2012.
This will be the first time in MUP's history that such collective agreement was signed, and it is necessary to take all the steps needed for its realization, Dacic noted.
He stated that it was agreed that the new systematization be completed in keeping with all the needs, as well as the equipping of the policemen.
President of PSS Veljko Mijailovic said that the trade union is "more than satisfied with the agreement reached with the minister."
Mijailovic told Tanjug that the Serbian government verified the amendments to the Law on Police on Tuesday, adding that the amendments will soon be available to the Serbian assembly.
The strike ended after 16 days, the president of the representative trade union said, adding that all requests were fulfilled at the meeting.
