Refugee associations have asked the Serbian government not to drop its counterclaim of genocide against Croatia, explaining that it will not help settle issues, establish friendly relations and accomplish true reconciliation between the two nations.

Refugee associations have asked the Serbian government not to drop its counterclaim of genocide against Croatia, explaining that it will not help settle issues, establish friendly relations and accomplish true reconciliation between the two nations.

"If the Serbian government decides to drop the countersuit, it will signal the continuation of the policy of giving in and false reconciliation over the backs of refugee and displaced Serbs, who are the damaged party," the Coalition of Refugee Associations stated.

The coalition thinks it is acceptable for the two countries to drop charges only if Croatia starts a dialogue with Serbia in order to find a general, just and lasting solution to the problems faced by Serb refugees and other damaged people.

Serbia and Croatia have to talks about returning seized property and acquired rights, establishment of equal standards in war crimes trials, settling missing persons' issues, compensations for destroyed property, marking the locations where Serbs were killed, giving financial and moral satisfaction to victims' families, rebuilding monuments and public buildings destroyed in the war, the coalition stated.

Croatia's Foreign minister Vesna Pusic said on Saturday Croatia would drop its charges of genocide against Serbia.
