Voter turnout at the general election in Serbia was 32.1 percent by 2 p.m., which is 2.7 percent more than in the 2008 parliamentary election, the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) has announced.
At a press conference held at Tanjug's press club, CeSID Programme Director Marko Blagojevic said that the turnout in today's elections is similar to the one in the first round of the 2008 presidential elections, when 33 percent of eligible voters cast their ballot by 2 p.m.
During the poll so far, CeSID observers, who are present at around 1,000 polling stations, recorded the lowest turnout in Belgrade, where 29.4 percent of the voters voted by 2 p.m.. Vojvodina is next, with 30 percent, while central Serbia had the highest turnout, with 33.8 percent.
CeSID observers, according to Blagojevic, recorded a number of irregularities, but they do not threaten the regularity of the overall elections, neither in scope nor character.
CeSID will announce the next data on the turnout and election procedure at 5:55 p.m. and 7:55 p.m., the first preliminary results at 9:30 p.m. and hold the final news conference at the Tanjug Press Club at 10 a.m. on Monday.
The Tanjug news agency and CeSID are organizing comprehensive election coverage throughout the day Sunday, and in the evening, a series of panel discussions on Serbia's political and economic future.
