The state electoral commission (RIK) said Sunday that turnout at the polls by 2 pm was 31.47 percent of voters in Serbia without Kosovo and Metohija, which is somewhat more compared to 2008, when 28.51 percent of voters turned out in the same period.
In central Serbia turnout was 32.40 percent, in Vojvodina 29.48 percent, and in Belgrade 31.50 percent.
According to a RIK representative sample, turnout in Novi Sad (northern Serbia) was 27.29 percent, in Nis (Southern Serbia) 30.62 percent, in Kragujevac (central Serbia) 29.93 percent, and in Cacak (central Serbia) 29.74 percent, Director of the Republic Statistical Office Dragan Vukmirovic said at a RIK news conference.
RIK Deputy President Slavoljub Milenkovic confirmed that he had information that several people were arrested in Novi Sad and that other irregularities were registered in the city.
He pointed to RIK regulations and the law on reacting to disturbing public order at the polling places.
In that case, the president of the election committee interrupts the vote. If the interruption is more than one hour, the voting is extended by the same amount of time, and if it is a brief interruption, the polling stations will close at 8 pm, Milenkovic said.
