Northern Kosovo leaders protesting over KFOR actions

At a meeting in Zvecan, leaders of the local authorities in the north of Kosovo and Head of the Kosovska Mitrovica District Radenko Nedeljkovic have condemned KFOR and EULEX actions as unilateral and aimed at intimidating the Serb population.

The communiqué reads that such actions also aim at destabilization of the north of Kosovo, with majority Serb population, and forcible integration of this part of the province in the Kosovo system.

The leaders requested that the will of citizens expressed at the referendum on non-acceptance of institutions of the so-called Republic of Kosovo be respected, and psychological pressure and political arrests of the Serbs be stopped.

It is emphasized that representatives of the local authorities as determined to solve all problems peacefully and that they want to be partners with KFOR officials.

We expressly oppose attempts to shut down UNMIK in Northern Mitrovica, they pointed out adding that the attempt to open an office of the so-called Kosovo Government in this part of the town
