Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic stated that artwork titled “One: Table” by a group of young architects will represent Serbia at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale.
Markovic told a press conference held on the occasion of the upcoming Biennale that his Ministry had announced a competition for Serbia’s representative at the exhibition.
The team whose work has been chosen to represent Serbia this year includes Marija Nikovic, Olga Lazarevic, Marija Strajnic, Nikola Andonov, Aleksandar Ristovic, Marko Marovic, Milan Dragic, Janko Tadic, Nebojsa Stevanovic and Milos Zivkovic.
The president of the Association of Serbian Architects and the exhibition commissioner, architect Igor Maric explained that the theme of this year’s Biennale is “Common Ground”, adding that such a topic requires both theoretical and practical views of perception, as well as philosophical and political, historical and contemporary ones.
He said that 34 authors and teams responded to the announcement for participation in the Biennale, adding that the team comprising architects Branislav Mitrovic, Vladimir Milenkovic, Milan Djuric, Zorica Savicic, Lazar Kuzmanov and himself selected the work which at first seems reduced to a minimalist gesture.
The Biennale opens on 29 August and will last until 25 November 2012.
