Serbia's newly elected president Tomislav Nikolic said Monday that he will take the oath of office on Thursday, May 31, while the inauguration ceremony will be held on June 11.
It is possible that the session at which I will take the oath will be chaired by a new parliament speaker, Nikolic told the press after a meeting with Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, who is also the acting president of Serbia.
Talks on the government obviously have not stopped since the first round of presidential elections, Nikolic noted, adding that the chairmanship of a new parliament speaker would mean that an agreement on the setting up of the next government has been reached.
He pointed out that the future government awaits a lot of work, and that he will both urge and assist the body to work well.
"I will completely take over the office of President as of Thursday, but I will continue to be open for cooperation," Nikolic told the press, calling reporters to criticize him every time he does something wrong.
Asked if (former president of Serbia Boris) Tadic gave him some advice, Nikolic replied with a smile: "If Boris Tadic gives me an advice, I will lose the next elections."
"I will have to and I want to work differently than he did," the president-elect said.
Prior to the meeting with Djukic-Dejanovic, which was held at the presidency building, Nikolic met with Tadic with whom he discussed the transfer of duties.
