Aleksandar Vucic, vice president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), stated on Sunday evening that the SNS has absolutely and definitively won the parliamentary elections.
However, the Democratic Party (DS) also claims to be leading in the parliamentary elections.
Vucic told reporters that based on the results of 48.7 percent of polling stations, the SNS lists took a 1.5 percent lead over the DS-led list, stressing that the difference is almost insurmountable.
Based on the results so far, the SNS lists won 24.4 percent, and the DS-led list won 22.85 percent of the vote, he said.
Vucic stated that it is unlikely that the DS list will have better results in Kosovo-Metohija than the SNS block. “It is completely clear today that the SNS is the strongest political party in Serbia, and we want to form the next government,” he said.
Vucic underlined that this will depend on the results of the presidential vote, adding that for this reason the party calls on citizens to support Nikolic in the presidential runoff.
He expressed expectations that Tomislav Nikolic, SNS presidential candidate, will score a victory in the presidential vote over Boris Tadic, candidate of the 'For a Better Life' coalition.
Vucic previously said that Tadic is trailing after Nikolic in the first round of the presidential vote.
Deputy leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Dragan Sutanovac stated late on Sunday that DS has won the greatest number of votes on all levels according to the materials processed so far, and that Boris Tadic of the coalition 'Choice for a Better Life' has a slightly greater support than Tomislav Nikolic.
In the DS seat, Sutanovac said that the sample is not representative and that the coalition 'Choice for a Better Life' holds the lead on all levels, adding that it can be already said that DS would head the new government.
