Russia finishes aerial evacuation of citizens from Libya

“Evacuation of citizens of Russia and other states by the Emergencies Ministry’s aviation from Tripoli has been finished. At 17:20 Moscow time, the fourth Yak-42 plane of the Emergencies Ministry flew out of the Libyan capital, carrying the ministry’s operational group that organised the evacuation of Russian citizens from Tripoli,” the ministry spokesman told Itar-Tass on Wednesday February 23.

“Evacuation of citizens of Russia and other states by the Emergencies Ministry’s aviation from Tripoli has been finished. At 17:20 Moscow time, the fourth Yak-42 plane of the Emergencies Ministry flew out of the Libyan capital, carrying the ministry’s operational group that organised the evacuation of Russian citizens from Tripoli,” the ministry spokesman told Itar-Tass on Wednesday February 23.
During the day, three Emergencies Ministry planes brought 339 people from Tripoli, including 220 by two Il-76 planes.
Russian citizens are also leaving Libya’s Sidra and Ra’s al-Unuf by sea ferry to Istanbul where they will be picked up by Emergencies Ministry planes.
Earlier, the ministry’s spokeswoman, Irina Andrianova, said that a total of 1,263 people wer subject to evacuation from Libya – 563 Russian citizens who work in Libya and 700 Turkish and Serbian citizens who work in the country under contract with Russian Railways Company.
The Emergencies Ministry’s website shows lists of Russians being evacuated form Livya. The ministry’s emergency psychological aid centre has also set up a crisis hotline available at 8-495-626-37-07. Operators will also provide information on the evacuees. The hotline operators have already received more than 550 calls
