Representatives of major religions in Serbia – Orthodox and Catholic Christianity, Islam and Judaism – met in Nis, the birthplace of the Roman Emperor Constantine, and talked about values of the Edict of Milan which recognized Christianity as a religion, and after which persecution of Christians ceased.

The gathering should also be a significant step toward the marking the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of the Edict of Milan in 2013.
Bishop of Backa Irinej said that the anniversary reminds of the need for spiritual unity in Europe and worldwide.
As for the allegations that the Pope may come to Serbia to attend the celebration, Bishop said that it is still too early to talk about the final list of guests.
Archbishop of Belgrade Stanislav Hocevar and Belgrade Mufti Muhamed Jusufspahic led the delegation of the Catholic Church in Serbia and the Islamic community respectively.
