Classes shortened in 41.5 percent of schools in Serbia

The data of the Serbian Education Ministry released on Friday show that 58.2 percent or 1,048 schools in Serbia hold regular classes, while 764 or 42.5 hold 30-minute lessons that is classes which are shortened by 15 minutes.

Three education unions, the Association of teachers' trade unions of Serbia, the Union of Education Workers of Serbia and education workers' union Nezavisnost (Independence), have continued to protest even after signing of the protocol on improvement of financial position of all workers in the education system.
The education workers have requested their salaries be increased by five percent on to occasions - in May and October, adjusting their salaries with the consumer price index, amendments to the Law on Basis of System of Education and changes of a special collective agreement for primary and secondary schools and students' halls of residence.
