Strike ends, Macedonia-Greece border opens

Greek customs officials, in fact, ended their strike after a court in Athens, which was requested by the country's Ministry of Finance to determine whether the decision on going on strike was illegal, urged the customs officer to return to work, as otherwise they would have to pay EUR 1,000 for the offense.

All border crossings between Macedonia and Greece were open after Greek customs officers ended their strike late Friday, Macedonian media reported on Saturday.

The strike was initially planned to last until October 24, Macedonian media said.

Macedonian border services said that all freight, passenger and rail traffic between Macedonia and Greece had been normalized after the customs officers stopped their strike late Friday.

Over the recent days, Greek public transport has been almost paralyzed due to the strike of customs services' employees, whose trade unions are calling for a general strike on October 19.
