Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has reacted to a recent clash between Serbs and ethnic Albanians in Kosovska Mitrovica, northern Kosovo, by calling on the international community to ensure peace and safety in Kosovo.
"We have had some contacts with EULEX representatives and are working to calm the situation," said Dacic, commenting on the clash between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians that occurred after the Saturday match between Serbia and Turkey at the basketball world championship in Turkey.
"Serbs stand to lose the most from such incidents... they (the incidents) create an uncertain environment, making life in Kosovo seem impossible for Serbs," Dacic noted.
According to him, Serbia demands that the international community fulfil the tasks set by their UN mandate, "which means to ensure peace and safety for all citizens."
Seven people, including one EULEX police officer were injured in Kosovska Mitrovica on Saturday in the clash between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians that happened after the Serbia-Turkey basketball match at the world championship in Istanbul.
