Oct. 4 in Belgrade saw the start of the fourth two-day inter-parliamentary meeting between the Serbian Parliament and the European Parliament.
European Parliament delegation head Eduard Kukan said in his opening address to the assembly that Serbia's progress toward the European Union was visible, but that additional efforts were needed. Kukan also voiced the hope that the two-day meeting would contribute to an even greater pro-European mood in Serbia.
Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said the inter-parliamentary meeting was of "particular importance, because last year was the most successful for Serbia in the process of European integration."
The assembly's joint chairs are Djukic-Dejanovic, Kukan and Laslo Varda, who heads the Serbian Parliament's European Integration Committee.
Opening speeches were also made by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic and director of the Serbian EU Integration Office Milica Delevic on behalf of Serbia, and Vincent Degert, head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, on behalf of the European Commission. The European Parliament delegation is to stay in Serbia two days.
