KFOR Commander German Major Erhard Buhler stated on Sunday evening that the election day in Kosovo is a success in the domain of safety and stability in Kosovo-Metohija.
Overall, the election day was peaceful and stable, no serious incident was reported and there were no large-scale riots. The security situation was under control of the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) which was supported by EULEX police, Buhler said.
He stated that a great number of KFOR soldiers were and are still ready to help the Kosovo police forces if a need arises. This day was a success and a step forward for the safety and stability in Kosovo. However, KFOR has to condemn deliberate damaging of the premises of the KFOR Liaison and Monitoring Team in Zubin Potok, the KFOR commander said, adding that this crime was obviously committed in order to terrify potential voters.
In keeping with the well-developed plans made in cooperation with EULEX and the KPS, KFOR has deployed 1,400 soldiers at various location from which they can reach any problematic spot in no time, the statement reads.
