New website www.ecured.cu in Spanish, which will officially start Tuesday evening, is already running and so far there were more than 20.000 entries.

Users will be able to update the site with administrator’s approval, though it is not known who controls the website.

Founded in 2001 in the United States, main ideological opponent of Cuba, the Wikipedia is a multilanguage online encyclopedia with free access.

It allows its users to update or change its contest with certain limitation that refer to about 2.000 controversial articles.

Cuban online encyclopedia EcuRed was developed "to create and disseminate the knowledge of all and for all, from Cuba and with the world," the site said.

EcuRed's entry about the United States said it had historically taken "by force territory and natural resources from other nations, to put at the service of its businesses and monopolies."

"It consumes 25 percent of the energy produced on the planet and in spite of its wealth, more than a third of its population does not have assured medical attention."

According to EcuRed that from early on, U.S. leaders looked upon Cuba "like those who admire a beautiful fruit that will end up falling in their hands."
