EULEX chief Xavier Bout de Marnhac congratulated Monday Kosovo police on professionalism in providing security in the Sunday parliamentary elections.

The eyes of the world were turned to Kosovo on Sunday to see whether it was able to organize safe elections, De Marnhac said.

The few incidents which occurred were settled by the Kosovo police in a professional and calming manner, he said in a statement presented to Tanjug. The Kosovo police were in charge of providing security in the elections.

About 6,000 police officers were deployed and had support from EULEX and KFOR. EULEX deployed about 500 international police officers to support the Kosovo police with supervision, monitoring and advice during the elections, both in southern and northern Kosovo.
