Serbia has achieved good results in the reforms and the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU and the progress opens the door for Serbia to become a candidate for admission into the Union as soon as all conditions are fulfilled.

This is stated in the preparatory documents debated today by the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, in which documents the BETA Agency had insight.

It was pointed out that the EU Council of Ministers will reconsider granting Serbia the status of a candidate as soon as the Council receives the opinion about it from the European Commission.

The document reiterated that the judiciary reform, curbing corruption and organized crime, and improving the business environment are necessary conditions for Serbia's EU membership. Full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal was emphasized as an important requirement.

The document also welcomed Belgrade’s steps towards reconciliation and cooperation in the region, expressed satisfaction over the cooperation between the EU and Serbia in resolving the Kosovo issue in the UN and indicated the willingness of Brussels to help the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
