The Serbian Railways company has become a full-fledged member of the RailNetEurope (RNE) association, which has been working on enhancing the international cooperation between European railway operators since 2004, Tanjug learnt at the Serbian Railways headquarters on Friday.

The Serbian Railways company became a full-fledged member of the association as of January 1, and the constitution of expert teams which would take part in the work of RNE bodies is underway, Serbian Railways spokesperson Nenad Stanisavljevic stated.

RailNetEurope is seated in Vienna, and in 2010 it had 35 full-fledged members, one associate member and two candidates, including the Serbian Railways.

Late in 2010, the Serbian Railways Infrastructure Directorate and the Passenger Transport Department assessed that all conditions have been met for the company to become a full-fledged member in the association.

According to RailNetEurope's statute, a company can hold on to the status of an associate member for only a year.
