Public support for EU accession in Serbia has dropped to 57 percent, Head of the government's EU Integration Office Milica Delevic said Friday, noting that the responses show the EU is seen as a way to a better and more ordered life.
"Sagging support for EU integration (it never dropped below 60 percent in earlier polls) is not surprising, since a similar trend can be seen in neighboring countries which are even closer to the EU," Delevic said at a news conference at the Serbian government offices.
Delevic stressed that the most important reservoir of support to the integration process are the 78 percent of citizens who believe that reforms should be carried out regardless of European integration.
Presenting the results of the survey dubbed European Orientation of Serbian Citizens - Trends, conducted in December last year, Delevic said that the response shows Serbian citizens view the EU as the embodiment of a better and more ordered life.
