Hungary in the first week of January received more than 4,000 requests from around the world for citizenship, with most requests submitted in Romania and the consulate in Subotica, Serbia, said Hungarian Embassy in Belgrade Attache Anna Szlanyinka.

Szlanyinka told EurActiv Serbia (www.euractiv.rs) that for now there was no data on the total number of requests submitted in Serbia, but that Budapest would publish a monthly report at the end of January.

She added that as far as Serbia was concerned, appointments in the consulate in Subotica were booked up until summer, while the embassy in Belgrade had received several hundred requests.

According to her, great interest had been shown in acquiring Hungarian citizenship from people in all sections of society and in all age groups, as well as from people in various municipalities in Vojvodina.
