Telekom Austria is very interested in purchasing 50 per cent of Telekom Srbija capital and is currently assessing and reviewing the documentation of the Serbian telecommunications company, Vip mobile CEO Thanasis Katsiroumpas told Tanjug on Wednesday.

The decision will be adopted as soon as the Austrian company gathers all information based on the assessment of documentation it purchased from Srbija Telekom at the public tender, Katsiroumpas said.

The main point is that the process in underway, the company is interested and it is currently reviewing Srbija Telekom's value and documentation, he said and added that a working group of Telekom Austria will adopt the decision on the basis of the documentation assessment.

The tender for submitting binding offers for the purchase of 50 per cent of Telekom Srbija's capital is due to expire on March 21 and the opening bid totals EUR 1.4 billion. Six companies, including Telekom Austria, have purchased tender documentation so far.

Speaking about the results Vip mobile achieved in Serbia, Katsiroumpas said that the Serbian telecommunications market, which is developing with the support of the government, has considerable potential and good prospects for the future.

Telecommunications run various markets in a number of countries and Vip mobile invested over EUR 33 million in Serbian mobile telephony in 2010 which, together with EUR 300 million the company invested in obtaining the mobile operator licence, represents a greenfield investment in the Serbian telecommunications.

Vip mobile has approximately 1.4 million users in Serbia, Katsiroumpas noted.
