Head of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) Xavier de Marnhac has said that the police in northern Kosovo is not capable of operations like the recent one conducted by the EULEX police and NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) when they arrested Jevrosije Pantelic, who is suspected of involvement in organized crime in the town of Zubin Potok.
De Marnhac, a French born former KFOR commander, told the Zeri daily from Kosovo that the police in the north of the territory consisted of one ethnicity and EULEX had exclusive mandate there.
De Marnhac added that no solution had yet been found for Serb and Kosovo Albanian judges to begin working at the local district court, but he said there were efforts towards making that happen and that it was a political issue.
There will be discussions about it during his visit to Belgrade in the coming weeks. Koha Ditore, another daily from Kosovo, states there will be difficulties in trying to replace commanders of police stations in northern Kosovo.
New chiefs have been appointed and they are expected to assume their posts next week, although the institutions that follow the instructions of the Serbian government oppose this.
