Zoran Krasic, the head of the legal defence team of International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) indictee Vojislav Seselj, stated Tuesday that the leader of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) was clinically dead when admitted to hospital on Friday.

Krasic said at a press conference that when Seselj was admitted to The Hague's Leiden Hospital on January 6 he was out of consciousness and his entire body was black-and-blue.

He underlined that doctors drained out several liters of fluid from Seselj's lungs, and that according to a medical interpretation, this was caused by a heart or lung failure and Seselj was practically experiencing clinical death.

Upon his hospital admission, Seselj felt weak, and had arrhythmia and tachycardia, Krasic added.

According to Krasic, this indicates that the Hague Tribunal purposely neglected Seselj's health condition, which equals attempted murder.

Krasic claims that Seselj received an inadequate medical treatment in The Hague's detention unit.

Although the ICTY repeatedly claimed that Seselj did not want to have the data on his health condition released, it was for thousand times that the SRS leader said in the court room that these data should be made public, Krasic said.

According to him, Seselj's spouse Jadranka is not allowed to visit him, although this was previously approved.

She departed for The Hague on Tuesday, Krasic said, adding that without proper information delivered to his family and the public in Serbia, no one can really know what is being done to Seselj.

According to Krasic, Seselj is fighting for justice and his life, and confronting malicious media which are spreading false information.

Krasic underlined that the health condition of the SRS leader is not only the responsibility of The Hague Tribunal, but also of entire Serbia, and called for daily information about his condition as well as putting Seselj in contact with his family and legal advisors.
