The EU expects Serbia to quickly form a government, whose priority would be the EU integration process, Slovakia's Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak said on Thursday, during a visit to Belgrade as an envoy of EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
The EU wants a government which would have the ambition and strength to implement reforms, prioritize the EU integration process, take over the obligations of the previous government, and continue the talks with Pristina, Lajcak said after a meeting with Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic.
He specified that the goal of his visit to Belgrade was to learn about the atmosphere and situation in Serbia after the elections, adding that he would report his impressions to officials in Brussels. Commenting Serbia's presidential election, Lajcak, who is also the prime minister of Slovakia, underlined that the EU accepts and respects the election results.
Jeremic expressed belief that there will no change in Belgrade's policy regarding key foreign, regional and other issues. Noting that the priority of the previous government of Serbia was the EU integration process, which was fully supported by Slovakia, Jeremic said that he is certain that the future government of Serbia will also have Slovakia's understanding and support. Slovakia is one of Serbia's closest friends in the world, and the two countries have high level of understanding in all key areas.
