Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt stated in Belgrade on Wednesday that Swedish and American administrations have had no contacts regarding the possible extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and that Swedish judicial system is completely independent.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt stated in Belgrade on Wednesday that Swedish and American administrations have had no contacts regarding the possible extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and that Swedish judicial system is completely independent.

Sweden has an independent judicial system which operates in full conformity with the law and has no contacts either with Swedish government officials, or with other authorities, Bildt underlined at a press conference held after his Wednesday meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic.

Assange, who was in the spotlight last week because his Wikileaks website released the secret US diplomatic cables, was arrested in London on Tuesday, and was refused bail at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Swedish prosecution issued an arrest warrant for Assange, 39, whom the Swedish authorities want to question regarding two counts of sexual molestation. Assange denied the allegations, while Interpol charged him with "sex crimes", but didn't specify the offense any further, prompting rumors that he had been accused of rape.

The proceedings Sweden commenced against Assange are not linked to the Wikileaks case, and no pressure has been made on the Swedish prosecutors who are completely independent in their decision-making, the Swedish Prosecution authority released Tuesday.
