Through December 7, Croatians will be able to buy 30 original Austrian products at promotional prices in their local Spar supermarkets, as part of the "Austrian Days" event that started last week in Zagreb.
This is the second time that such an event has been organized in Croatia through Austrian Foreign Trade Office and Interspar.
The manifestation helps smaller Austrian entrepreneurs establish contacts with Croatian partners and break onto the local markets more easily, the Office’s director Roman Rauch told those gathered.
"Austria has one of the strictest laws in the world concerning food production. That is why I think that the businessmen from the Austrian agricultural-food sector have something to offer to the Croatian markets," said Rauch.
The Austrian Minister of Agriculture Nikolaus Berlakovich pointed out that Croatia is Austria’s fourth largest foreign trade partner outside of the European Union, after United States, Switzerland and Russia. It is therefore in Austria’s interest to develop and deepen the relations between the two countries, the business portal Poslovni Dnevnik writes.
Ministar Berlakovich, who is a Burgenland-Croat by birth, said that Croatian and Austrian models of agricultural production are similar as both are based on small, family-owned businesses. Austria has managed to maintain the same structure even since joining the EU and Croatia could learn from its example, Berlakovich added.
