The first case of HIV in BiH was registered in 1986 and today there are 134 HIV positive registered in BiH.
“Although there are not many people with HIV / AIDS in BiH, immediate attention is focused on the prevention of increase in the number of infections.
Main activities in the fight against HIV and AIDS are created through the project "Coordinated State Response to HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis in war-torn and highly stigmatized settings", according to the Ministry.
The project is financed by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for the period 2007 – 2011, with tendency to continue its implementation beyond 2011.
According to recent estimates of UNAIDS / WHO, 39.5 million people worldwide are living with HIV, out of whom more than 570 000 are children.
The ministry of Civil Affairs this year will in a symbolic way join the celebration of World Day against HIV / AIDS by turning the ribbon –shaped lights on at the building of friendship between BIH and Greece on November 30 and December 1.
